On a hot track (Original title: Face of a Fugitive ) is an American film by Paul Wendkos from 1959 with Fred MacMurray in the lead role as a convicted bank robber on the run, who is purified by blows of fate.

The bank robber Bank robber Jim Larsen is said to be transferred to prison by a marshal. With the help of his brother, he manages to escape. The Marshal is killed and Larsen's brother eventually succumbs to his injuries. Larsen can go into hiding under a new name in a small town. There the sheriff Riley finds himself in an argument with a powerful rancher. Larsen decides to support the sheriff, although he will recognize him when the wanted posters with his picture arrive by train. In a ghost town there is a final argument with the rancher and his people, which Larsen can turn off and thus save the sheriff's life. The sheriff finally recognizes Larsen as the fugitive bank robber and decides to stand up for him in court.
