As a student, Andrew Patterson, now a successful university professor, is initiated into the secret brotherhood of the bell. The brotherhood is very selective in the selection of its members, who are made up of influential personalities. When the Brotherhood approaches him about a task, Patterson refuses. When he tries to publicly expose the Brotherhood, he is exposed to ridicule and realizes that the secret organization is too powerful to fight it alone. Finally he manages to find support in his struggle.
