Frances Scholz

Frances Scholz (* 1962 in Washington, DC ) is a German-American artist. She is a professor of painting at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts (HBK Braunschweig).

Life

Frances Scholz studied painting under Kuno Gonschior at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1982 to 1988 . In 1983, at the beginning of her studies, she received the Peter Mertes grant from the Bonner Kunstverein . This was followed in 1992 by the sponsorship award of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia , in 1995 the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff grant and the grant from the Künstlerhaus Villa Waldberta of the City of Munich, in 1996 a working grant from the Art Fund Foundation (Bonn), and in 1999 the grant from the German Academy Rome ( Villa Massimo ) and in 2002 a scholarship in Los Angeles from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2016, Frances Scholz was “Artist in Residence” of the Chinati Foundation in Marfa (Texas).

The artist's works have been shown in the following institutions, among others: CAPC Museum (Bordeaux), Museum Abteiberg (Mönchengladbach), Bonner Kunstverein , Albrecht Dürer Gesellschaft (Nuremberg), Kunsthalle Düsseldorf , Kunstverein Arnsberg , Neuer Aachener Kunstverein (NAK), Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA, Los Angeles), Museum Ludwig (Cologne), Bundeskunsthalle (Bonn), Kunstverein Hannover . Permanent works are the mural “Waterloo” from 2009 in the Orchesterzentrum NRW (Dortmund) and the work “Porenbau” from 2001 in the rotunda of the Biocenter of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .
