Karl Schmidt-Rottluff grant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Karl Schmidt-Rottluff grant is a postgraduate grant for outstanding artistic achievements. It is endowed with 37,000 euros and is awarded every two years to up to five visual artists (painters, sculptors, graphic artists, performance artists) who are exclusively or predominantly freelance after graduation. The duration of the scholarship is initially one year; it can be extended for a further year.

This scholarship was founded in 1975 by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff , who contributed his private fortune to the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Förderungsstiftung: "In the conviction that the success of my creative work should be preserved and incorporated into the flow of artistic creativity" ( Deed of foundation). It was founded as an "artist grant" - by the artist for top young talent. The changing jury in turn consists of artists. For the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff grant you have to be suggested. It is not possible to apply yourself.

The conception and implementation has been carried out by the German National Academic Foundation since 1977 . The Marianne Ingenwerth Foundation has been a partner in the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft since 2007. Every four years, two years are exhibited together in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf . Julia Apitzsch-Haack is in charge of the scholarship (as of 2016).
