Empty memorial base in Göttingen

Monument "To the father of the state his Göttingen Seven"

As an ironic allusion to the slogan "To the father of his loyal people" on the base of the Ernst August monument in Hanover , the artist had the work of the father of his Göttingen seven put up in Göttingen in 2015 . This is a base identical in shape and size, but "without horse and rider", which - similar to Hanover - was set up in front of the Göttingen train station . The fact that the empty plinth bears the inscription "Dem Landesvater seine Göttinger Sieben " on the one hand , and on the other hand the names of the seven Göttingen professors, some of whom have been expelled from the country, but also those of the artist herself (in the same font and font size), met with harsh criticism and was presented as a self-presentation perceived. Three days after the monument was handed over to the public, the statement was made public that the inscription had not been faithfully copied: The year Ernst August I ascended the throne was given in Roman numerals as 1827 instead of 1837 - an X was missing. The mistake was corrected a good two weeks after the monument was unveiled.
