Thomas Virnich (born March 16, 1957 in Eschweiler ) is a German sculptor and painter .

life and work

Thomas Virnich lives and works in Mönchengladbach- Neuwerk. From 1978 to 1981 he studied at the Technical University of Aachen with Joachim Bandau , then switched to the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he studied with Alfonso Hüppi and Eugen Gomringer until 1985 . In 1983 Virnich had his first solo exhibition, received the promotion award from the city of Aachen and a promotion booth at Art Cologne . He received the sponsorship award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia fine arts in 1985, the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff scholarship (together with his two years older brother Winfried Virnich ) in 1987 and the Lower Saxony art award in 2001. Thomas Virnich produces large, colorful sculptures that proliferate and in which everyday objects or waste objects are integrated. Since 1992 he has been teaching at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig .

Thomas Virnich is (like his brother Winfried) a member of the German Association of Artists .
