Life

Kumrow studied from 1980 to 1984 at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts . In addition to sculptures, watercolor painting and glass works, Kumrow dealt with photography as an independent artistic discipline. His first watercolors were created as drafts for his objects. Only later did he use the technology as his own artistic form. In 1987 he was the youngest artist to take part in documenta 8 .

His work deals heavily with construction and deconstruction , which is most visible in the objects. His work attracted particular attention at the Hamburg Architecture Summer 2000. In collaboration with the well-known architect Hadi Teherani , Kumrow realized his building artistically. In doing so, he reassembled photographs of the buildings using purely photographic means and presented them on huge Cibachrome panels.

Kumrow's works are in numerous public and private German collections and in federal ministries in Berlin. Kumrow lived and worked in Hamburg and was a member of the Free Academy of the Arts Hamburg from 1999 .

Klaus Kumrow died on March 21, 2010 in Hamburg of complications from cancer.
