Sigurbjörg Þrastardóttir (born August 27, 1973 in Akranes ) is an Icelandic author .

Sigurbjörg Þrastardóttir studied comparative literature at the University of Iceland and graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts . In 1998 she also finished her studies in journalism and mass communication. In addition to her work as a writer, she now works as a journalist for the largest newspaper, Morgunblaðið . Sigurbjörg's first book, the volume of poetry Blálogaland ("Land of Blue Flames") was published in 1999. Since then she has published two further volumes of poetry and the novel Sólar saga ("Sol's story"), for which she received the 2002 Tómas Gudmundsson Literature Prize. Her play "Ovaries" premiered in Akureyri in the 2003/04 season . She is published by the Icelandic publisher JPV-útgáfa , the German translations are published by the horen .
