Dan Dediu

Dan Dediu (born March 16, 1967 in Brăila ) is a Romanian composer .

Dediu attended the music school in Bucharest from 1981 to 1985 and then studied composition with Ștefan Niculescu and Dan Constantinescu at the Conservatory until 1989 . He completed his training with Francis Burt at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . In 1991 he received first prize at the George Enescu International Composers' Competition . From 1992 to 1995 he did his doctorate in musicology at the Bucharest Music Academy, where he became professor of composition in 1998. He also taught at Queen's University of Belfast in 1994 and in the same year completed a course in music informatics at IRCAM Paris with Tristan Murail , Philippe Manoury and Jean-Baptiste Barrière . In 1999 and 2001 he was artistic director of the contemporary music festival in Bucharest. With the chamber opera "Münchhausen - Herr der Lügen" he won first prize in the 4th Neukölln Opera Competition (premiere 2002 Neuköllner Oper Berlin, libretto: Holger Siemann , conductor: Hans-Peter Kirchberg ). In 2005/2006 he received a scholarship from the international artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg .

He is the rector of the Bucharest National Music University .
