Jean-Baptiste Barrière (born January 2, 1958 in Paris ) is a French composer .

Life

In addition to music, Jean-Baptiste Barrière studied art history, philosophy and mathematical logic in Paris. Since 1981 he has worked as a researcher and composer at IRCAM on the projects Chants (synthesis of vocals and computers) and Formes (computer-controlled synthesis and composition).

From 1984 to 1987 he headed the department for music research, from 1989 the education department and from 1993 to 1997 the production department of the IRCAM. He also worked here with musicians such as Gérard Grisey , Jonathan Harvey and Sir Harrison Birtwistle . Between 1987 and 1989 he taught at the Paris Conservatory and at the University of California San Diego. From 1997 to 1998 he taught computer music composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Since then he has been working as a freelance composer.

In addition to independent works, Barrière composed the music for multimedia projects by Pierre Friloux and Françoise thoughts , Catherine Ikam and Louis Fléri , Peter Greenaway , Maurice Benayoun , François Schuitten and others.
