Bernd Goldmann (born March 14, 1945 in Bad Kissingen ) is a German specialist in German studies and art scholar . As an honorary professor and lecturer, he teaches modern German literature / literature mediation at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität in Bamberg and as an honorary professor for church art and member of the Institute for Spiritual Theology and Religious Studies at the Philosophical-Theological College Benedict XVI. Heiligenkreuz .

Life

Bernd Goldmann studied German, history, politics and library science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel and the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg , where in 1979 he worked on Count Wolf Baudissin von Arthur Henkel received his doctorate.

From 1972 to 1983 he was at the academy of sciences and literature as secretary of the class of literature and collaborator with the Hist.-Krit. Edition of the works and letters of the Social Bishop of Mainz Wilhelm Emmanuel Freiherr von Ketteler u. a. employed.

From 1983 to 1997, Bernd Goldmann worked as a consultant in the Ministry of Culture (later Ministry of Education and Culture, then Ministry of Culture, Youth, Family and Women) of Rhineland-Palatinate for museums, literature and the arts. In 1997 he became the founding director of the international artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg, which he headed until 2010. Numerous series were founded there under his direction (Bamberger Druck, Bamberger Bände etc.) and the cultural life of the city was lastingly shaped by the exhibition of large sculptures.

In 2002 Bernd Goldmann received the Citizen's Medal of the City of Bamberg, in 2008 the Silver Medal of Honor of the Upper Franconia District and in 2010 the E. T. A. Hoffmann Prize , the City of Bamberg's Culture Prize , because he “excels at cultural life earned in Bamberg. His work has left visible traces on Bamberg's streets and squares and has thus permanently changed the aesthetic face of the city ”(Lord Mayor Andreas Starke ).

Among the best-known of the large sculptures in Bamberg, which were arranged by Bernd Goldmann, are the works of the world-famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero (“Reclining Woman with Fruit” at the Heumarkt), the Centurione I by Igor Mitoraj before the crane or the Air recently acquired by the city -Earth installation by Jaume Plensa on the Upper Mühlbrücke. Thanks to his mediation, the design of church windows in St. Elisabeth im Sandgebiet is currently being planned, which will be arranged by one of the most famous contemporary German artists, Markus Lüpertz . The statue of Apollo in front of the Elisabethenkirche on Obere Sandstrasse was made by him.

Bernd Goldmann has been honorary professor at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg since 2008 and teaches modern German literature and literature mediation at the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies. Since 2013 he has been a lecturer for Christian art at the Philosophical Theological University Benedict XIV. Heiligenkreuz in the Vienna Woods , from which he was appointed professor honoris causa in 2015. He is a consultant, juror and member of numerous foundations and boards of trustees.
