Jaume Plensa
Jaume Plensa i Suñé (born August 23, 1955 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish sculptor and artist from Catalonia .
Life
Plensa was an art student in Barcelona at the Escola de la Llotja and the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi . He continued his training at the Henry Moore Foundation in England and then at the Alexander Calder studio in Saché , Indre-et-Loire .
Plensa lives and works in Barcelona, where in 1980 the Fundació Joan Miró had its first exhibition. He also taught at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris , among others . His work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the world.

- 2008: Breathing. made of glass and steel was inaugurated on June 16, 2008 on the roof of a new building (Egton Wing II) of the BBC's Broadcasting House in London by Ban Ki-moon in honor of the journalists who were killed on duty. Every evening at 10 p.m. GMT , a beam of light is sent from the sculpture a kilometer high into the sky during the half-hour broadcast of the BBC News at Ten .
- 2009: Participation in the open-air exhibition Blickachsen in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe with the sculpture Nosotros (We).
- 2009: The Dream. a 20 meter high and 500 tonne sculpture made of white dolomite , depicting the neck and head of a young woman with her eyes closed in meditation. This white figure is intended to contrast with the black past of the Sutton Manor Colliery (coal mine) in St Helens , Merseyside on which the sculpture was erected. The former colliery is located on the M62 motorway pretty much in the middle between Liverpool and Manchester .
- 2010: Awilda . a 5 meter high head of a woman made of 20 slices of white Spanish marble with negroid features in the inner courtyard (Dietrichsruh) of the University of Salzburg .
- 2010: Body of Knowledge. an eight-meter-high walk-in sculpture made of white painted steel on the central square in front of the lecture hall building on the Westend campus of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . Eight different alphabets and character systems were used by the artist in this network of letters.
- 2010: Spiegel I and Spiegel II , two white painted figures made of stainless steel, each 377 × 235 × 245 cm, Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio, USA.
