history

The first human settlements in the place go back to the Romans , who expanded the existing castle around the year 1000 in order to control the Chiana Valley . In the 15th century, Antonio da Sangallo the Elder gave the place the city walls.

The district of Carnaiola was also built around the year 1000 and here, too, an existing castle was expanded by the Romans, this time to control the Ponte del Muro Grosso , a dam on the Tiber . The castle was converted into a purely defensive castle around 1600 by the Filippeschi family, who dominated the place , but the Conti di Marsciano took over the place as early as 1602. In the 19th century, the Meoni di Buonconvento family from Buonconvento gained the upper hand in the village.

The previously independent municipalities Carnaiola and Fabro were merged in 1870 to form the municipality of Fabro.

The district of Fabro Scalo was created in the 1930s when the Florence – Rome railway line was given a stop in Fabro, but this had to be relocated outside the center.
