Montegabbione is an Italian commune with 1157 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Terni in the Umbria region .

Location of the municipality of Montegabbione in the province of Terni

The municipality extends over approximately 51  km² . It is located about 35 km southwest of Perugia and about 60 km northwest of Terni . It is part of the Comunità montana Monte Peglia e Selva di Meana and is in the climatic classification of Italian communities in Zone E, 2446 GG.

The districts include Castel de 'Fiori (540  m , approx. 20 inhabitants), Faiolo (469 m, approx. 190 inhabitants) and Montegiove (627 m, approx. 100 inhabitants).

The neighboring municipalities are Fabro , Ficulle , Monteleone d'Orvieto , Parrano , Piegaro ( PG ) and San Venanzo .

history

The Castello di Montegabbione was built in the 11th century. Due to the increase in population, it became a place around a century later. 1367 was of the Papal States commissioned ramparts completed. In 1560 Montegabbione was given the statutes of a comune . The district of Montegiove was an independent municipality in the province of Perugia until June 27, 1869 , but was then assigned to Montegabbione by decree.

  • Chiesa della Scarsuola , 13th century church in La Scarzuola
  • Chiesa di San Lorenzo , built in 1245 in the district of Montegiove, was restored in 1954.
  • La Scarzuola , building complex designed by the architect Tomaso Buzzi in the Montegiove district
  • Torre di Montegabbione , probably built in the 15th century and renovated at the beginning of the 20th century.
