history
The place originated at the time of the Lombards in Umbria. Since that time the place was associated with the Dukes of Spoleto . Around the year 1000 the castle Castello di Bufone was built , which was taken by Otto IV in 1209 . In the middle of the 13th century (1228 or 1258), the place became a free municipality, which was taken over in 1395 by the Abbey of San Pietro in Valle (today the municipality of Ferentillo) into the Confederazione dei dodici castelli (Association of the Twelve Castles). In 1527 the community became a free municipality again, but was largely under the control of Spoleto and the Papal States . The place remained there until 1860, when Umbria became a region of Italy as part of the Risorgimento . In 1927 the place was divided into the newly founded province of Terni.
