history

The first settlements in the local area come from the Etruscans . The castle comes from the descendants of Count Offredo, whose descendants of the Alviano family from Alviano founded the place, which was equipped with a wall ring and a port (now called Portovecchio - old port) in the 11th century . In the 13th century, Todi secured rule over the place. After several wars in the 16th century between Amelia, Todi and the Papal States, Bartolomeo d'Alviano (1455–1515) came to power. His family held it in 1540 when Pope Paul III. and his Farnese family took over the place for 104 years and finally sold it to Count Marcello Raimondi di Genova. This in turn sold the place after seven years to the Pamphili, who left Attigliano to the Orsini . The place stayed with them until 1860, when Umbria became a region of Italy in the course of the Risorgimento in 1860. Since then the population has increased steadily. Around 500 people lived in the village around 1861, compared to around 1900 in 2011.
