Penna in Teverina is an Italian commune with 1076 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Terni in the Umbria region .

The community extends over around 10  km² . It is located about 70 km south of Perugia and about 25 km southwest of Terni . It is the smallest municipality in Umbria in terms of area. The place lies on the Tiber and in the Teverinatal as well as in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, 1914 GR / G.

Penna in Taverina has no districts.

The neighboring municipalities are Amelia , Giove and Orte ( VT ).

history

The place is first mentioned in the 11th century. Penna was a fiefdom of the Orsini since the 13th century . In 1492 Amelia took control of the town. At the end of the 18th century, the place became the property of the Del Gallo di Roccagiovine family and remained so until it entered the Italian kingdom in 1860.
