Peter Oliver Loew (* 1967 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German historian, translator and university lecturer. He is mainly concerned with the history of Poland.

Life

Peter Oliver Loew studied Eastern European history , Slavic studies and economics at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and the Freie Universität Berlin . With a doctoral thesis on local historical culture in Gdansk , he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . In 2002 he became a research associate at the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt. In 2014 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Dresden . As a private lecturer , Loew succeeded Dieter Bingen as director of the German Poland Institute, whose deputy he had previously been, in autumn 2019 . Loew deals with the history of Poland and Silesia , German-Polish relations in modern times , regional and urban history, especially the history of the city of Gdansk and Pomerania , with minority history and cultural aspects of the history of East Central Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries . For 2006/07 he received a teaching position at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He has been teaching at the Technical University of Darmstadt since 2009 and also at the TU Dresden since 2014. In addition to his academic work, he translates from Polish.
