Katarzyna Cieślak

Katarzyna Cieślak (born February 14, 1956 in Danzig ; † September 8, 1997 in Potsdam - Mittelmark ) was a Polish art historian who dealt with the art history and culture of Pomerania , Warmia and Mazury .

Life

Katarzyna Cieślak finished her art history studies in 1979 at the University of Warsaw under the supervision of Professor Mariusz Karpowicz .

After completing her studies, she was employed in the research team of the Art History Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdansk, after which she moved to the Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute for Modern History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.

In 1988 she received her doctorate. She was mainly engaged in research on the culture of Gdańsk. Katarzyna Cieślak published numerous treatises in German and Polish.

During a study visit to Germany, she fell victim to a car accident and died at the age of 41. She was posthumously awarded the Georg Dehio Prize of the Esslingen Artists' Guild in 1999.

The Katarzyna Cieślak Foundation, founded in 2002, supports young scientists (up to 40 years of age) who are concerned with the art history and culture of Pomerania , Warmia and Mazury .
