Friedrich Wilhelm Maria Josef Hubert von Niesewand (born October 25, 1833 in Cologne , † March 2, 1916 in Dresden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

He was the son of the later Prussian Major General Leopold Otto von Niesewand (1793-1884) and his wife Maria Theresia, née Baroness von Negri (1811-1877).

Military career

Niesewand graduated from the Royal High School in Düsseldorf and then attended the cadet institute in Berlin from May 1850 . On April 27, 1852, he was transferred to the 8th Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army as a characterized Portepeefähnrich . There Niesewand received the patent for his rank on December 30, 1852 and was promoted to second lieutenant on December 10, 1853 . As such, he was adjutant of the 8th Landwehr-Reiter-Regiment during the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War . Promoted to Rittmeister during the war , Niesewand received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords, for his achievements and returned briefly to the 2nd Pomeranian Uhlan Regiment No. 9 on September 30, 1866. This was followed on October 30, 1866 as an adjutant at the General Command of III. Army Corps . Left in this command, Niesewand was transferred to the Thuringian Hussar Regiment No. 12 on March 22, 1868 . On April 12, 1870, he returned to the troop service as squadron chief in Dragoon Regiment No. 5 .

During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Niesewand came at the request of Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia as an adjutant to the High Command of the Second Army. There he was promoted to major on July 20, 1870 and took part in the battles at Vionville , Gravelotte , Noisseville , Beaune-la-Rolande , Orléans , Beaugency and Le Mans . His achievements were honored by being awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. After the end of the war, Niesewand was briefly commanded to serve with Prince Friedrich Karl until June 26, 1871, then returned to Dragoon Regiment No. 5 and on March 10, 1872 was appointed as a regular staff officer in the 1st Hanoverian Dragoon Regiment No. 9 transferred to Metz . In this position, promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 3, 1875 , he was appointed commander of the 1st Westphalian Hussar Regiment No. 8 in Paderborn on November 16, 1875 . Niesewand was promoted to colonel on June 11, 1879, and was appointed commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade on October 17, 1883, with his regiment à la suite . The city of Paderborn granted him honorary citizenship on November 30, 1883 because of his services .

In his garrison Neisse he was promoted to major general on September 16, 1885 . In addition, on January 18, 1888, Niesewand was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Oak Leaves and Swords, for his longstanding services , before he was put on disposition with the statutory pension on September 19, 1888, conferring the character of Lieutenant General .

After his departure, Niesewand received the papal cross of honor Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice on December 23, 1902 and the Order of the Crown, 2nd class with a star, on September 13, 1912 . He was a knight of honor of the Sovereign Order of Malta and Lord of Hohenrath and Pützfeld.

Niesewand had married Therese Karoline Hubertine von la Valette-Saint George (1837-1913) in Cologne on May 28, 1857. Several children were born from the marriage.
