Dieter Bingen
Dieter Heinrich Bingen (* 1952 in Cologne ) is a German political scientist and contemporary historian .
Career
Dieter Bingen attended the Dreikönigsgymnasium in Cologne from 1963 to 1971 . From 1973 to 1978 he studied political science, constitutional, social and economic history , sociology and educational science at the University of Bonn . In 1977 he went on a three-month research stay in Poland (Instytut Zachodni, PISM). In 1979 he received his doctorate from Hans-Adolf Jacobsen at the University of Bonn. phil. PhD.
From November 1981 to February 1999 he was a research assistant ( Scientific Senior Council ) at the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies (BIOSt), Cologne (Research Area II: East Central and Southeastern Europe). In 1981 he again stayed for three months in Poland for research as part of a DFG project at the BIOSt. From 1984 to 1994 he was a lecturer in political science at the University of Bonn. He was a member of the German delegation at the CSCE Implementation Meeting on Human Dimension Issues (Warsaw, September 27 to October 15, 1993). Since 2004 he has been honorary professor for the field of “Cultural Change and Social Transformation Processes in Europe” at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Zittau / Görlitz and, since 2012, has also been a visiting professor for political science at the Technical University of Darmstadt .
From March 1999 to the end of September 2019 Dieter Bingen was director of the German Poland Institute .
