Antonio da Sangallo the Elder

Antonio da Sangallo the Elder (actually Antonio Giamberti , * around 1455 in Florence , Italy ; † December 27, 1534 there ) was an Italian architect and fortress builder .

He was the brother of Giuliano da Sangallo , with whom he often worked together, and the uncle of Antonio da Sangallo the younger . From 1518 he built the church of Madonna di San Biagio in Montepulciano , the palaces of Cervini and Bellarmini, the palace of the Cardinal of Santa Prassede and some churches in San Savino, the church of Santissima Annunziata in Arezzo and the citadel in Civita Castellana .
