Bas-en-Basset is a French municipality with 8718 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs administratively to the arrondissement of Yssingeaux and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Bas-en-Basset .

Bas-en-Basset is located in the Velay , a landscape in the French Massif Central , on the Loire . Here the river Ance flows into the Loire.

Bas-en-Basset is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Rozier-Côtes-d'Aurec in the north, Malvalette in the northeast, Monistrol-sur-Loire in the east, Beauzac in the south, Tiranges in the west and southwest, Valprivas in the west and Saint-Hilaire- Cusson-la-Valmitte in the northwest.
