Sainte-Sigolène ( Occitan : Santa Segolena ) is a French municipality with 5959 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Yssingeaux and is the capital of the canton of Deux Rivières et Vallées .
geography
The community is located in the Velay , a landscape in the French Massif Central . The Dunières flows through the southern part of the municipality . Sainte-Sigolène is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Monistrol-sur-Loire in the north and north-west, La Séauve-sur-Semène in the north, Saint-Didier-en-Velay in the north-east, Saint-Pal-de-Mons in the east, Lapte in the south and southeast, Grazac in the southwest and Les Villettes in the west.

Between 1792 and 1795 the municipality was called Sigolène-les-Bois .
