Martin Heuseler

Martin Heuseler (also Martin (us) Heussler, Heusler ; † May 14, 1555 in Dresden ) was a Saxon lawyer, Dresden councilor and mayor .

Life

Act as town clerk, councilor and mayor

Martin Heuseler studied law, probably at Leipzig University , and was a doctor of both rights . In 1526 he was appointed chief town clerk in Dresden, which meant that, in addition to drawing up official documents and documents, he was also responsible for all legal tasks of the council. In 1540 he is mentioned in the documents as chief town clerk and syndic . Three years later he handed over the office to Jobst Kettwig , who later also became mayor of Dresden.

From 1539 Heuseler belonged to the Dresden council and is listed as a licenciat in the council files. In 1546 he was appointed treasurer and in 1554 was the governing mayor. The following year he died in Dresden, the regulation of his estate can be found in the council book of 1557.

Act as a bridge master

In addition to his council work, Martin Heuseler was also the bridge master of the stone Elbe bridge and responsible for its maintenance and necessary construction work. During his tenure, extensive renovation work was carried out in 1547, during which existing wooden components were replaced by stone ones. The bridge office treasury , which was subordinate to him, took over the financing , the building material was made available by the elector.
