Saint-Just-Malmont is located in the Velay , a landscape in the French Massif Central , on the river Échapre , which is dammed in the north of the municipality. Saint-Just-Malmont is surrounded by the neighboring communities Firminy in the north, Le Chambon-Feugerolles in the north and northeast, Saint-Romain-les-Atheux in the east, Jonzieux in the southeast, Saint-Victor-Malescours in the south, and Saint-Didier-en -Velay in the southwest and Saint-Ferréol-d'Aurore in the west.
