Bessamorel is a French municipality with 458 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Yssingeaux and the canton of Yssingeaux .

geography

Bessamorel is located in the Velay , a landscape in the French Massif Central , about 18 kilometers east-northeast of Le Puy-en-Velay . Bessamorel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Yssingeaux in the north and east, Le Pertuis in the south and Saint-Julien-du-Pinet in the west.

history

In the 13th century, the Knights Templar had a commander here with a tithe barn. After the order was broken up, the Order of St. John took on its role. In 1574 the place was sacked by the Protestants.
