Johann Christian Winter (Cantor)

Johann Christian Winter (born March 3, 1718 in Helmstedt , † 1802 in Hanover ) was a German cantor and poet .

Life

After Winter had attended school in his hometown, he went to the Martineum grammar school in Braunschweig in 1739 . In 1741 he went back to Braunschweig to study theology . In 1744 Winter was appointed adjunct to Heinrich Bokemeyer in Wolfenbüttel , whose daughter he married. As early as 1745 he was appointed cantor in Celle . He later worked as cantor and music director in the old town of Hanover .

In 1751 he became the 18th member of Lorenz Christoph Mizler's Corresponding Society of Musical Sciences .
