The canton Aurec-sur-Loire is a French canton in the Arrondissement Yssingeaux in Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhone-Alpes in France . Guy Vocanson ( PS ) has been a representative in the General Council of the Département since 2008 .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Yssingeaux District".

With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the Yssingeaux arrondissement.

From September 10, 1926 to June 1, 1942, the canton belonged to the Arrondissement of Le Puy-en-Velay .

geography

The canton borders in the north on the cantons of Saint-Bonnet-le-Château in the arrondissement Montbrison and Firminy in the arrondissement Saint-Étienne , both in the Loire department , in the east on the canton Saint-Didier-en-Velay , in the south on the canton Monistrol -sur-Loire and in the west to the Canton of Bas-en-Basset .
