The Cayres was a French canton in the arrondissement Le Puy-en-Velay in the Haute-Loire department in the Auvergne region until 2015 .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "District of Le Puy".

With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Le Puy.

geography

The canton bordered the canton Loudes in the north, the canton Solignac-sur-Loire in the north-east and east , the canton Saint-Paulien in the south-east, the canton Pradelles in the south and the canton Saugues in the west .

Only the part of the municipality Alleyras to the right of the Allier is part of the canton. However, the total number of residents is given here. The other part of the municipality is in the canton of Saugues .
