Marius Ivaškevičius (born March 26, 1973 in Molėtai ) is one of the most important contemporary authors in Lithuania , journalist, prose and screenwriter, playwright and director.

Life

Marius Ivaškevičius is a representative of the youngest generation of writers in Lithuania. After graduating from the Molėtai Middle School , he studied Liturgy at the Philological Faculty of Vilnius University and then worked as an editor of the Saturday supplement of the Respublika newspaper . Later he worked on the programs of the Lithuanian television LRT Kultūros spąstai (Culture Trap) and Kurybos metas (Time of Creation).

In 1996 Marius Ivaškevičius published the collection of short stories Kam vaikų (Children on Sale) in the publishing house of the Lithuanian Writers' Union . In the 1998 novel Istorija nuo debesies (Stories from the Cloud) he tells the development of his country using the water cycle - as an eternal repetition.

In 1998 he made his debut as a playwright. The piece Kaimynas (The Neighbor) won the National Drama Competition and was founded in 2000 in Vilnius Youth Theater and in "Žaltvykslė" Theater of Lithuanians in America in Chicago listed. Together with the dramas 8-230, tai aš (8-230, it's me) and Malыš (Malysh), the piece forms a trilogy. The author himself directed the final part. The play was shown in 2002 in Oskaras Koršunovas Theater in Vilnius .

The novel Žali (The Greens) from 2002 is about the absurdity of the Lithuanian partisan war that raged until the early 1950s. Since the book does not portray Russians as an enemy, Ivaškevičius was denigrated within his country as a "nest polluter".

Ivaškevičius wrote five more dramas from 2002 to 2012 with Purpuriniai dūmai (Purple Smoke), Madagascaras (Madagascar), Artimas miestas (Close city), Mistras and Išvarymas .

In 2014 Ivaškevičius directed the film Santa for the first time , for which he also wrote the screenplay.
