Dulce Maria Cardoso

Dulce Maria Cardoso (born 1964 in Fonte Longa (Carrazeda de Ansiães) , Portugal ) is a Portuguese writer .

Life

Dulce Maria Cardoso was born in northeast Portugal in 1964. She grew up in Angola , from where the family was evacuated to Portugal in 1975 after Angola's independence and the outbreak of civil war. She studied law at the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon , wrote short prose and screenplays until she published her first novel Campo de Sangue in 2002 . She became known to a larger audience in 2005 with her second novel Os meus Sentimentos , for which she received the European Union Prize for Literature in 2009 . O Chão dos Pardais was published in October 2009 . From May 2010 to March 2011 she was a scholarship holder of the Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Bamberg. In 2011 she published the novel O Retorno , which was also published in Brazil in 2012.

Awards

Her first work, Campo de Sangue , was awarded the "Grande Prémio Acontece de Romance" in 2002.
For her novel Os meus Sentimentos , published in 2005 , she received the 2009 European Union Literature Prize .
The novel Chão dos Pardais , published in 2009, was awarded the Portuguese Prémio PEN in 2010 and received the Prémio Ciranda in the same year.
