Arash Safaian

Arash Safaian (* 1981 in Tehran , Iran ) is a German- Iranian composer .

Life

Arash Safaian received lessons in piano, composition and composition from an early age. At the same time he devoted himself to his own drawings and paintings, for which he received the prize of the Saxon-Bavarian Youth Art Biennale at the age of 17. After school he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg under Peter Angermann . He then started studying composition at the Munich University of Music and Theater. There he studied with Jan Müller-Wieland . He also continued his studies with Pascal Dusapin . He later expanded his musical training by studying film music with Enjott Schneider .

In 2010 he founded the INDEX ensemble for contemporary music and visual arts with the conductor Samy Moussa, and has been its artistic director ever since. Since 2013, he has also been a partner in the Century Rolls production company in Munich. Arash Safaian wrote numerous orchestral and chamber music pieces, as well as works for musical theater. In addition to numerous film and theater music, he composed the short opera “At-Stake” for the Munich Opera Biennale 2010 and the music theater “on the beach” for the 30th anniversary of Philip Glass “Einstein on the beach”, which took place in 2012 at the Baryshnikov Arts Center was premiered under the direction of Robert Wilson and Marcia Moraes. Arash Safaian lives and works in Munich.

Arash Safaian is the son of the painter and sculptor Ali Akbar Safaian .

Awards

Arash Safaian is the winner of the Reinl Foundation Vienna, the international Günther-Bialas Prize Munich and the eon Culture Prize Bavaria. As artistic director of the INDEX ensemble, he was awarded the Bavarian Art Prize in 2013. He was also a scholarship holder from the DAAD and the City of Munich. He received a scholarship from the international artist house Villa Concordia Bamberg and the Cite des Artes Paris. In 2017 he and Sebastian Knauer received a classic echo . For his compositions for the film Lara (director: Jan-Ole Gerster ) he received the Bavarian Film Prize 2019 in the film music category.
