Markus Zahnhausen

Markus Zahnhausen (born March 12, 1965 in Saarbrücken ) is a German recorder player and composer .

Life

Zahnhausen studied at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Hermann Elsner . He also studied Slavic Studies and Musicology at the Universities of Trier and Munich .

Since October 2002 he has been teaching recorder at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . From 2010 to 2012 he held a visiting professorship at the Art University Graz . He was visiting professor at the Carl Nielsen Music Academy in Odense, the Royal Music Academy Copenhagen , the Birmingham Conservatoire , the Grieg Academy at the University of Bergen in Norway, the Folkwang University in Essen and the Wichita State University in the United States.

He is active as an interpreter of old and modern recorder music in concerts, radio, television and CD productions as well as festivals and concert series. He kicked u. a. in Russia at the "Moscow Autumn" and at the "St. Petersburg Spring ", in Great Britain at the" Exhibition of Early Music ", as well as in Iceland, Tatarstan and the Urals. He appeared in the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera at the Munich Opera Festival under the conductors Ivor Bolton , Harry Bicket and Joshua Rifkin . His first string quartet "Stilleben" was premiered in March 2003 by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Quartet . He made his US debut in October 2003 and was visiting professor at Wichita State University. In 2005 he received a grant to work at the Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz / New York.

In addition to his musical activities, Zahnhausen worked as a music journalist for the Bavarian Radio , for the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts as well as for specialist magazines. As editor he is responsible for the series “New Recorder Library” of the Möseler Verlag in Wolfenbüttel. He is the initiator of new recorder works by the composers Harald Genzmer , Günter Kochan , Walter Mays , Elis Pehkonen , Rodion Schtschedrin , Hans Stadlmair , Boris Tischtschenko , Atli Heimir Sveinsson , Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson and Ruth Zechlin .
