Johannes Xaver Schachtner (born June 26, 1985 in Graefelfing ) is a German conductor and composer.

Life

Johannes X. Schachtner comes from a Gauting family of musicians. His father Johannes M. Schachtner, church musician in Gauting , and brother Simon Schachtner , cellist, are also musicians. His uncle Franz L. Schachtner leads the Ensemble Blinde Musik München .

Johannes X. Schachtner received his first musical training on the trumpet, followed by piano and conducting lessons with Ulrich Weder. From 2004 he studied composition at the University of Music and Theater in Munich, first with Hans-Jürgen von Bose and Rudi Spring , then with Jan Müller-Wieland . At the same time he attended the conducting class of Bruno Weil and graduated from both courses with the master class diploma.

His compositional work includes works for solo instruments, chamber, vocal and orchestral music as well as works for musical theater, which include a. commissioned by the Bavarian State Opera (2007 Opera Festival), the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra or the Munich Biennale . Internationally renowned soloists such as Silke Avenhaus , Julia Fischer , Julius Berger , Maximilian Hornung , Valer Barna-Sabadus and Peter Schöne or the conductors Michael Sanderling and Ulf Schirmer performed his works.

As a conductor, Schachtner has worked with the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic, and he is a regular guest at various festivals. In 2007 he made his operatic debut with Il turco in Italia by Giachino Rossini, followed by numerous other music theater productions, which he a. a. to the Vorarlberger Landestheater. Since 2014 he has been the founding conductor of the Youth Ensemble for New Music Munich | Bavaria (JU [MB] LE). In addition, he regularly conducts world premieres, such as B. by Volker Nickel , Sarah Nemtsov , Sven-Ingo Koch , Markus Schmitt , Birke J. Bertelsmeier or Enjott Schneider .

In addition to his work as a composer and conductor, Johannes X. Schachtner also works as a lecturer and artistic director. From 2010 to 2015 he was the artistic director of the aDevantgarde Festival and also initiated numerous highly regarded projects in the field of contemporary music. Johannes X. Schachtner's works are published by the music publisher Hans Sikorski .
