Blind musicians Munich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blind Musicians Munich is a German music ensemble . As a marching band , jazz band , recorder group and choir , it is the only professional orchestra in Germany that consists of blind members. The musical director is the full-time teacher Franz Ludwig Schachtner from Gauting .

history

The group emerged from a vocational training project for young blind people, which was initiated in 1991 by the Bavarian Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired (BBSB). From 1995 the Blind Musicians in Munich operated as a non-profit company with limited liability (GmbH). The repertoire includes more than 300 pieces. The ensemble members do not study their pieces with the help of Braille notation . They learn this through foreplay from their music teachers.

The group now performs up to 350 appearances throughout Germany a year, traditionally also at the New Year's reception of the Bavarian Prime Minister . In 2013 the filmmaker Jens-Tibor Homm realized a nearly thirty-minute film portrait about the ensemble, which was also shown on German private television .

Others

Oliver Möckel, pianist and trumpeter in the orchestra from 1997 to 2002, founded the self-help group Blind Musicians Frankfurt / Main in 2003 in Frankfurt am Main .
