history

School building of the Pfennigparade Foundation

After the Second World War, a citizens' initiative for the benefit of polio-paralyzed people was founded in Munich , which was registered as an association in 1952. As the first major campaign, the association took over the costs of vaccination against polio for financially weak patients in Bavaria in 1956. The following year, the association organized the International Poliomyelitis Conference in Munich. In the following years, the cooperation with Schwabing Hospital was intensified and aftercare for polio patients was taken over. The Contergan scandal in 1960 widened the circle of people with disabilities cared for by the Pfennigparade.

In 1961, encouraged by the association, Bavaria was the first federal state to introduce active vaccination against polio. In 1962, the successful brick- and- mortar fundraising campaign by the Münchner Abendzeitung and Bayerischer Rundfunk began , which made it possible to finance a new building very quickly. In 1969 a secondary school for students with physical disabilities was approved.

In the 1970s, a large number of new offers arose, including a dormitory for artificially ventilated people, schools, a kindergarten, barrier-free apartments and a workshop for people with physical disabilities. In 1979 the Pfennigparade Association set up the Pfennigparade Foundation.

In the years that followed, the Pfennigparade Foundation expanded its range of services. The workshop for people with physical disabilities also opened branches outside of Munich in the early 1980s. New support offers arose such as Perspective GmbH in 1991, a support center with housing for people with complex disabilities, or in 1995 the conductive support for children with spasticity, from which Phoenix GmbH grew in 2001. In 1999, there was an inclusion company, SIGMETA GmbH, in which 165 employees with and without disabilities now provide IT and commercial services together.

In 2006, Pfennigparade and three other companies founded the AtemReich GmbH children's home, in which ventilated children and infants live up to school age. In 2012 the Pfennigparade celebrated its 60th anniversary.

The Pfennigparade Foundation with its 17 subsidiaries has developed in the course of its history into a social group that offers a wide range of funding in the areas of education, work and employment, medicine and therapy, living and leisure.

Structure of the foundation

The foundation is headed by an 11-member board of trustees. It includes leading personalities from medicine, education, politics and business. The foundation is managed by two board members: Dr. Jochen Walter and Ernst-Albrecht von Moreau. The Pfennigparade Foundation has 17 subsidiaries and one association. All subsidiaries are non-profit.

Areas of activity

In the Pfennigparade and its non-profit subsidiaries, people with physical disabilities receive professional support, promotion and advice in the following areas. In addition, the Pfennigparade offers a multi-layered basis for participation and, as an active promoter of an inclusive society, creates encounters between people with and without disabilities.

education

The educational area of the Pfennigparade includes kindergartens and schools, which are now attended by just as many children without as with disabilities. In recent years, more inclusive children's homes have been added and the employees of the two funding institutions and inclusive schools have been able to bring their specialized special and curative educational know-how into the inclusive settings of the children's homes and thus also into the educational concepts.

  • Ernst-Barlach-Schulen GmbH: The Ernst-Barlach-Schulen GmbH consist of three inclusive schools, including a primary and secondary school, a secondary school and a technical college. All schools are officially recognized. The curricula and examination regulations apply to them as at state schools. For people who cannot (yet) live independently, the foundation offers communal living. The residential groups are spread across the individual Munich districts, so that the children, young people and adults living there are integrated into the social space. Outpatient assisted living is of interest to residents who want to prepare for independent living.

The therapy practice at Luitpold looks after adults and children as well as external patients. Depending on the time of school hours or working hours, physiotherapy, logo or occupational therapy can be used, for example.

Advice and support

An important complementary area of the foundation's work is advice and support. These include social, psychological, pastoral and therapeutic services. In the counseling and social service, people with physical disabilities and their relatives receive information and support in social, economic and legal issues as well as in questions about admission to a workshop, housing options and school offers.

Job offers and services of the workshops

For the people at the Pfennigparade Foundation, work often means much more than a steady income. Work gives structure, creates self-confidence and creates meaning and community. For people with disabilities in particular, the workplace is also an important place for meeting colleagues. Here they can shape, actively contribute and feel that they are involved.
