A New Year's reception is a reception given at the beginning of the year, usually in January, by heads of state , personalities, parties , associations , clubs or other organizers.

Part of a New Year's reception are the greeting by the host, further greetings, speeches and artistic or musical performances. A New Year's reception can be held in the form of a standing reception.

As a rule, a New Year's reception is used for representation and is often used to provide an outlook on the institutions' plans and goals in the beginning of the year. Different participants are often honored.

Examples of New Year's receptions are that of the Federal President . The Federal President and, separately, his wife invite various groups to Bellevue Palace every year . The city of Frankfurt am Main invites you to their New Year's reception in the Römer Kaisersaal , the Hamburgers invite you to their town hall .
