József Sári
József Sári (born June 23, 1935 in Lenti ) is a Hungarian composer.
Life
After graduating from high school, Sári studied composition with Endre Szervánszky and music pedagogy and conducting with Zoltán Vásárhelyi from 1954 to 1962 at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest . Afterwards he worked in various functions in the music industry in Hungary: teacher at a music school, piano accompanist, director of a chamber orchestra, concerts, lectures. Between 1971 and 1984 he was a freelance composer and interpreter of his own works in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Sári has been a teacher of music theory at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music since 1984, where he completed his habilitation in 1997, and was head of the “Music of the 20th Century” college there.
In 2000/2001 Sári received a scholarship from the International Artists' House Villa Concordia in Bamberg .
In 2009 Sári received the Kossuth Prize .
His younger brother is the composer László Sáry .
