Jakob Mattner (born February 1, 1946 in Lübeck ) is a German painter and sculptor .

Life

Jakob Mattner studied from 1967 to 1972 at the Berlin University of the Arts . In 1973 he received a scholarship from the DAAD for a year studying in Rome ; and in 1974 a one-year scholarship from the Federal Minister of the Interior for a study visit to the Cité des Arts, Paris . In 1977 he was awarded the Villa Romana Prize , which enabled him to stay at the "Villa Romana" in Florence. In 1981 he received a work grant from the Art Fund Foundation. In 1994 he received the Heitland Foundation Art Prize. In 2005 he was able to take advantage of project funding from the Federal Cultural Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF. In 2012 he received a scholarship from the Bavarian Ministry for Science and Art at the Villa Concordia in Bamberg. In 2012 he received further project funding from the Art Fund Foundation.

From his first marriage to Verena von Hugo, he has a daughter. His second marriage was to the architect and designer Nana von Hugo .

Jakob Mattner is a member of the German Association of Artists . He lives and works in Berlin .

Mattner sees his artistic interest in the metamorphosis of light between darkness and brightness, the twilight , as one of his work series is called.

His work is shown in numerous solo exhibitions, including in 2018 the exhibition "Membrane" in the Center of Contemporary Art Torun, 2015 in the exhibition "Spiegelungen" in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, 2009 in the exhibition " ohne Mimesis " in the Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg , in the Kestner Society in Hanover (1988), the Berlin Academy of the Arts (2001), the National Gallery Berlin in the Kunstforum in the Grundkreditbank (1987) as well as in well-known galleries in Berlin, New York, Paris, Moscow, Geneva, Barcelona and London. He has been designing the stage of the Berlin International Literature Festival since 2001 and the stage of the Erlangen Poet Festival since 2013.

From 2003 to 2005 Mattner worked on the initiative of the curator Anna Maigler for two years with the astrophysicists of the Einstein Tower solar observatory in Potsdam on the common theme of the sun , the source of light and vision.
