Christian Lange (born April 13, 1972 in Bamberg ) is a German church historian and local politician ( CSU ). From May 7, 2014 to May 6, 2020, he was second mayor and thus deputy mayor of the city of Bamberg in Upper Franconia .

Christian Lange grew up in Bamberg. After graduating from the Franz-Ludwig-Gymnasium , he studied Catholic theology, Latin studies, ancient history and the languages ​​and cultures of the Christian Orient at the universities of Bamberg, Tübingen and Oxford. In 2001 Christian Lange received his Doctor of Philosophy from Wolfson College Oxford . From 2002 to 2008 he worked as a research assistant at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg , from 2008 to 2014 as an academic councilor and senior councilor at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . In 2011 he qualified as a professor for church history and patrology at the University of Salzburg .

Political career

Lange has been a member of the Bamberg City Council since May 2002. During this time he was, among other things, deputy chairman of the CSU city council group and spokesman for his group in the Senate for Education, Culture and Sport. As the successor to Werner Hipelius (CSU), the Bamberg city council elected him as the second mayor on May 7, 2014. In this office, Lange was education, culture and sports advisor for the city of Bamberg until May 2020. His successor as second mayor is Jonas Glüsenkamp (Green Bamberg).

Christian Lange was also district chairman of the CSU district association Bamberg-Stadt until May 17, 2020.

Memberships

Lange is involved on a voluntary basis in the Bamberg-Ost citizens 'association, the city association for sport and the district committee of the Bavarian civil servants' association. He also supports various development associations, for example that of the Bamberg volunteer fire department. He is a member of the Catholic student association WKStV Unitas Henricia Bamberg.
