Line Hoven (* 1977 in Bonn ) is a German comic book artist and illustrator .

life and work

Line Hoven was born in Bonn and grew up near Detmold in East Westphalia. After working as an assistant for costume and stage design at the Staatstheater Kassel for two years , she began studying visual communication at the Kassel Art Academy . Two years later she moved to HAW Hamburg , where she a. a. studied with Anke Feuchtenberger and Georg Baber, known as ATAK .

According to the company, it was these two teachers who got Line Hoven to want to do comics. In an interview with the magazine brand eins , Line Hoven reports to the author Peter Lau about her fascination with the comic medium: “What always bothered me at the theater was that you could never implement the images you had in your head because everything is always too expensive was. There are no limits in comics, you can break out of everything and let others participate directly in your own universe. "

Line Hoven's style consists of drawings scratched into scrapboard . Thus, their way of working is very time-consuming. In 2010 Line Hoven was awarded the eoplauen prize and in 2017 she received the Hans Meid Prize .

The series Dudenbrooks with texts by Jochen Schmidt and pictures by Line Hoven, published weekly from January 8 to July 16, 2011 in the Pictures and Times section of the FAZ , was subsequently published as a book by the Jacoby & Stuart publishing house .

Line Hoven lives and works in Hamburg as a cartoonist and freelance illustrator.
