Reprodukt is a comic book publisher based in Berlin-Wedding , founded in 1991 by Dirk Rehm . The publisher's name is based on the idea of the printed comic page as a reproduction of the drawing. Works by US, Canadian, German and French artists are predominantly published. According to Reprodukt, autobiographical references in the works of the published authors form the common basis of the publishing concept. Reprodukt sees itself as an author publisher; the majority of the published artists also come from the alternative comics scene .

Reprodukt consists of a network of freelance editors and publishers who take care of individual book titles as independently as possible through the acquisition of license rights, translation and production. The publishing house publishes around 35 titles per year.

history

In cooperation with the Swiss publisher Edition Moderne , Reprodukt only published albums from the American underground series Love & Rockets by the brothers Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez until 1993 . This was later followed by publications by other artists from the alternative North American comic scene such as Charles Burns , Daniel Clowes , Craig Thompson and Adrian Tomine .

Another focus since the mid-1990s has been German-language translations by illustrators and authors from the French publishing house L'Association such as David B. , Patrice Killoffer , Jean-Christophe Menu and Lewis Trondheim . Since 2004, the publishing program has been expanded to include albums by Franco-Belgian artists who are at home both in the independent scene and in the mainstream ( e.g. Philippe Dupuy , Charles Berberian , Manu Larcenet and Christophe Blain ). One example is the satirical fantasy series Donjon by Joann Sfar and Lewis Trondheim.

Since 1994, cooperation and support for draftsmen and up-and-coming artists from German-speaking countries have been given additional weight in the publisher's self-image. Comics by German authors appeared for the first time with works by Andreas Michalke , Minou Zaribaf and Markuss Golschinski . To this day, special attention is paid to draftsmen and authors from the Berlin and Hamburg scene (including Arne Bellstorf , Anke Feuchtenberger , CX Huth , Sascha Hommer , Mawil , Andreas Michalke, Martin tom Dieck , Lukas Jüliger , Line Hoven , Barbara Yelin and Aisha Franz ) .

Since March 2013, Reprodukt has also been publishing comics specifically aimed at children. The children's program consists partly of translations from the English and French regions, partly of projects by German authors that are specially supervised and produced by the publisher. In 2016 the publisher received the Buchlust Audience Award . In 2017 the publications Geisel by Guy Delise, In the Shadow of War by Sarah Glidden, Olympia by Bastien Vivès , Florence Ruppert & Jérome Mulot and Esther's Diaries - My Life as Ten-Year-Olds by Riad Sattouf received the Rudolph Dirks Award 2017, the latter also the 2017 Rudolph Dirks Award Max and Moritz Prize for Best International Comic.

In 2018 the publisher received the Berliner Verlagpreis - Förderpreis, in 2019 and 2020 the German Publishing Prize . Dirk Rehm received the K.-H. Zillmer publisher award.
