Manu Larcenet
Emmanuel "Manu" Larcenet (born May 6, 1969 in Issy-les-Moulineaux in France ) is a French comic artist and author .
Life
After studying graphics and applied arts, he published his first drawings in fanzines . At the same time he sang in a punk band . He began his professional career in 1994 with short stories for the monthly newspaper Fluide Glacial , for which he worked until 2006. With his works in this magazine (like the series Bill Baroud, Spy ) he became known for his weird , parodic humor. From 1997 he also published stories in Spirou that were aimed at a younger audience.
He used his own publishing house ( Les Rêveurs ) to publish personal and gloomy works (five issues between 1997 and 2005). In 2000 he began to work with the Dargaud publishing house, including the series Les cosmonautes du futur ("The cosmonauts of the future", with Lewis Trondheim ) and Une aventure rocambolesque de ... ("The wondrous adventures of ..."). Through these albums and his participation in the series Donjon by Lewis Trondheim and Joann Sfar , he gained a larger readership.
In 2004, the first volume in his series Le combat ordinaire (" The Everyday Struggle ") was recognized as the best album at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême . In 2006 he received the Prix international de la Ville de Genève pour la bande dessinée for the third volume of Le combat ordinaire - Ce qui est précieux . In 2018 he received the Rudolph Dirks Award for Brodeck's report in the categories of historical drama and literary adaptation.
