Hilda González de Duhalde

Hilda Beatriz González de Duhalde , called Chiche , (born October 14, 1946 in Lomas de Zamora , Province of Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine politician of the Partido Justicialista . She studied teaching and is married to the Peronist politician and ex-president of Argentina, Eduardo Duhalde . She supported her husband in his political career and held offices in social policy.

Political career

In 1997 she was elected MP for the Province of Buenos Aires and was able to renew her mandate in 2003. During her husband's presidency (January 2, 2002 to May 25, 2003), she took over the Ministry of Social Affairs and directed the government's important nutrition program during the Argentine economic and financial crisis.

In 2005 she was elected to the Senate as the official candidate of the Partido Justicialista with around 25 percent of the votes counted for the Province of Buenos Aires . In the election campaign she represented the so-called Duhaldistas , the political supporters of her husband Eduardo Duhalde. She ran against her inner-party rival Cristina Fernández de Kirchner . The future president outstripped Hilda González de Duhalde in votes and also received a seat in the Senate. At the end of her mandate in 2011, she withdrew from politics.

In 2019 she returned as a candidate for the Senate after eight years without a political office. She runs for the Consenso Federal electoral alliance of presidential candidate Roberto Lavagna .
