David B.
David B. , actually: Pierre-François Beauchard , (born February 9, 1959 in Nîmes ) is a French comic artist.
Life
After studying at the École supérieure des arts appliqués Duperré in Paris , he began working as a cartoonist in 1985. His style was mainly influenced by Georges Pichard and Jacques Tardi . He, in turn, is named as the most important stylistic source of inspiration for Marjane Satrapi and Craig Thompson .
Today, in addition to his work as a draftsman, he also works as a publisher at L'Association . In 2005 he was awarded the Ignatz Award .
His best-known work is the series The Holy Disease ( L'Ascension du Haut-Mal ), in which he describes his own youth, which is overshadowed by his brother's epilepsy . For the fourth volume in this series, he was awarded the Prix de l'école supérieure de l'image at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême in 2000. With the 6th volume of this series, he won the 2003 Prix international de la Ville de Genève pour la bande dessinée .
