Gilbert Hernandez (* 1957 in Oxnard , California) is an American comic artist . Together with his brothers Jaime and Mario , he created Love and Rockets , a series to which each of the brothers made their own contributions and which was very well received in the independent comic scene.

Life

In the 1970s, Gilbert and his brother Jaime Hernandez developed the series Love & Rockets , which thematized adolescence , music - often punk rock -, family life and sexuality , often in Latin American cities and villages. In the eighties they designed posters for local bands . In 2003 Fantagraphics published the band “Palomar”, which thematizes life in a village of the same name in Central America and has been compared by critics to Gabriel Garcia Marquez 's “Hundred Years of Solitude”. He won several Harvey Awards , a Kirby Award, and an Inkpot Award . Reprodukt publishes the comics in German . Gilbert lives in Los Angeles .
