Marc Boutavant

Marc Boutavant (* 1970 in Dijon ) is a French illustrator and author of children's books and comics . He lives in Paris .

biography

Boutavant studied visual communication and then worked as a children's book author, comic artist and graphic artist .

He published his first publication at Actes Sud junior for the series À petits pas (German step by step ), namely the episodes Le soleil à petits pas (French: 'The sun step by step') by Michèle Mira Pons (1999) and Lécologie à petits pas (French for 'ecology step by step'). Gérard Lo Monaco asked him to write a book with counting rhymes for the Albin jeunesse publishing house. Lo Monaco was enthusiastic about the program Guinguette pirate (pirate tavern), which Marc Boutavant had made for this café-concert ship for seven years.

In 2002 he invented his own animal world with the series Mouk . This children's book series was published by Editions Mila and Albin Michel jeunesse from 2007 with the title Le Tour dur monde de Mouk ( German Mouk's world tour) . “It's just a bear pattern. I don't want you to be identified as an animal, I want you to break away from it, ”he explains at the beginning of the series. Together with Emmanuel Guibert he is also the author of the series Ariol (Ariol et ses Amis) in the magazine J'aime lire at Bayard Presse . Together with Béatrice Fontanel he created the character Bogueugueu. In 2013, with Colas Gutman, he invented the title character of the series Chien Pourri (German Lazy Dog), which appeared in the Mouche Collection at L'École des loisirs .

Marc Boutavant was one of the authors of the “Atelier des Vosges / Atelier Nawak”, a new generation of comic book authors, together with Émile Bravo , Lewis Trondheim , Christophe Blain , David B. , Joann Sfar , Frédéric Boilet and Marjane Satrapi . Today he is represented by "Heart Agency", an agency for illustrators based in London and New York .

Graphic implementation

Marc Boutavant first dealt with acrylic painting before he turned to the computer program Photoshop . He says that this way he can better express what is going on in his head and that he gets a better idea of ​​the rendering process .

Film adaptations

In 2009 Ariol was made into a film for television. The animation studio Folimage in Valence realized the series (78 episodes of four minutes each) in co-production with the Canadian production company Divertissement Subséquence. Emile Sengelin and Amandine Fredon were commissioned with the realization. TF1 has had the series in its program since November 16, 2009, as does the Télétoon + channel . Valérie Baranski writes the scripts, Marc Boutavant is responsible for the graphics with the support of Emilie Van Lient. In 2011 Mouk was adapted for television by the animation studio Millimages . The director was Francois Narboux; the series (104 episodes of eleven minutes each) aired on September 19, 2011 on Disney Junior and France 5 .
