Buchlust is an annual book exhibition and book fair for independent publishers in Hanover .

history

Forerunner of the book Lust was the first time organized in 1978 literature week Literanover with lectures, readings and book presentations of Hanoverian small publishers and writers and a two-day book exhibition at the Sprengel Museum Hannover . At the same time, Kurt Morawietz initiated the so-called lyric phone , which Hanoverian authors used to read from their works on a weekly basis for several years.

The publishing and art press fair has been running annually on a weekend in November since 1994 under the name Buchlust . At the end of 2000, the book and literature event with the organizer Literaturhaus Hannover moved to the literary floor of the Künstlerhaus Hannover .

profile

In addition to publishers from Lower Saxony , exhibitors from other federal states were invited from the outset in order to offer independent publishers their own forum beyond the major book fairs in Leipzig and Frankfurt and to enable direct exchange between publishers and readers. The initially 20, now 24 exhibitors who present their publishing program at Buchlust are selected by a jury of experts based on literary as well as creative criteria. The regional and content-related focuses change from year to year, so that in addition to well-known publishers, new media companies are also exhibiting again and again. For its tenth anniversary, exhibitors from Austria and the Czech Republic were guests, and for the 20th  Buchlust in 2013, publishers from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland came .

The organizer of Buchlust is the Literaturhaus Hannover . The sponsors include the state of Lower Saxony , the VGH Foundation , the Lower Saxony Foundation , the Hanover region and the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels Nord, media partner is NDR Kultur .

In addition to the exhibition, there is an extensive program of readings in the cinema in the Künstlerhaus . In recent years, authors such as Christoph Ransmayr , FW Bernstein , Thea Dorn , Fritz J. Raddatz and Herta Müller , but also actors such as Suzanne von Borsody , Miroslav Nemec , Jasmin Tabatabai , Hanns Zischler , Matthias Brandt , Thomas Sarbacher and Nina Petri have read .

From among the exhibiting publishers, the visitors choose the winner of the Buchlust Prize, initially endowed with 500 euros and since 2013 with 700 euros . The award ceremony concludes the event.
