With a daily changing program, the cinema in the Künstlerhaus sees itself as a "workshop for new innovative films". But classics of film art and film history are also presented, often cyclically and according to thematic , geographical or artistic aspects.

The educational and cultural policy of the city of Hanover allows holders of the Hanover Active Pass free entry.

Special events

  • The premises of the KiK are sometimes also used during the Buchlust literature week , which has been held annually on a November weekend since 2000, including in the so-called literature day of the Künstlerhaus.

history

The KoKi in Hanover was founded in 1974 - under the direction of Sigurd Hermes - as a non-commercial cinema “with the aim of showing and promoting current, innovative films.” Initially, there were no permanent venues for the Koki. The mobile cinema was developed in cooperation with the first projectionist of the KoKi, Günter Möhrmann . The films could be shown in the municipal venues and leisure centers in Vahrenwald , Ricklingen , Lister Turm or in the Apollo on Limmerstrasse in Linden . From 1979 onwards, the cinemas founded by Hans-Joachim Flebbe on Raschplatz in the previous year were also used. It was not until 1983 that the KoKi got its now firmly established venue in the former Rambergsaal of the Künstlerhaus in Sophienstrasse .

The non-commercial cinema was threatened with closure several times in its early history - for lack of money. But in 1993 the KoKi was able to consolidate itself economically through further private donors. In the same year the facility was named "Kino im Künstlerhaus", but both names have been used since then.

At the same time as the redesign of the Künstlerhaus in the years 1999 to 2001 "by the Hanover architects Pax, Hadamczik, Arndt, Brüning", the technology and the auditorium were modernized , in which, in addition to film screenings, author readings or readings are also offered.
